A 12-year-old girl from northeast China's Liaoning Province attracted judges'attention at the 69th Cannes Film Festival in France last week.

Yaohong Hemei was born in the provincial capital of Shenyang and has already played many leading roles in around 30 films as a child star.

Her latest film was shortlisted at this year's event, where Philippe Muyl, French director and president of the jury, spoke highly of her remarkable acting. He even invited her to play a role in his films in future.

When interviewed by the reporters, Hemei said, "I love the challenge of different roles and experiencing diverse kinds of lives in my acting career."

She spoke with many famous Chinese and foreign filmmakers at Cannes, receiving a welcome reception from many, according to commentators.

Li Xiaodong, principal of her primary school, praised her excellent academic record and said she always actively took part in various activities in the past.

The young girl said she hoped that more people worldwide would enjoy Chinese cinema after watching her films.
