An anonymous Shanghai heroine aged around 60 stepped forward to bravely protect a stranger from being beaten up by attackers late at night on July 6. Video footage of the event was posted online and quickly went viral.

Even though some viewers identified the woman in Shanghai this week, she insisted that she had only felt the impulse of human nature to protect the victim.

In addition, the woman remarked that she would not accept any rewards from the man, surnamed Li, or from the public. She simply expressed her wishes that Li would make a quick and full recovery.

On that day, Li was in a dispute with gang members who furiously attacked him in the street. The fearless local intervened, reproached the bullying mob and stayed with the injured man till police officers arrived. Li later went to a nearby hospital.

Since the heroine was hailed as a role model by the public, she has kept a low profile and called on citizens to defend their rights and justice against criminals.
