A set of sketches drawn by a cancer patient's wife swept the internet in recent days. The sketches feature the kind and caring moments of doctors and nurses from Shao Yifu Hospital, east China'sZhejiang Province.

The loving couple are in their 30s and when the husband had to undergo a big surgery during his 10-day stay in hospital, his wife stayed by his side day and night.

Fortunately, the cancer was cured. When leaving the hospital, they sent the sketches as a gift to the doctors and nurses who had taken very good care of them during the treatment. The medical workers were surprised and delighted upon seeing the note on the gift "Thank you for your care."

Usually, they get gifts like fruits and flowers from patients, whilst those patients who have been diagnosed with cancer can rarely face doing anything else, and neither can their relatives. Many netizens say there must be a story behind the whole-hearted couple.

'Thank You'

The couple who were in their 30s are both teachers from the city of Wenzhou, east China. The husband surnamed Guo teaches physics in the third grade. The wife surnamed You teaches Art at school.

The husband has had a big surgery during his 10 days' stay in hospital. The wife accompanied him day and night. When speaking of her sketches, she became a little bit shy and said:"I draw them in my spare time after everything was done. I didn't have enough time to polish them, which was a shame."

One month ago, the husband was diagnosed with mesenchymoma at his physical examination offered by the school. Soon after, he lost five kilograms within half a week. A local doctor said his tumor was as big as a fist. You reminisces that she felt like the sky was falling down when she heard the bad news. Two weeks later, Guo was hospitalized in Shao Yifu Hospital.

During the interview, a nurse said the couple were very considerate and they did whatever they could to not bother others. "After surgery like this, patients often experience intense pain, some even scream out or become uncooperative afterwards, but neither of these things happened with Guo."

His wife always stayed by his side and did all of the chores, buying their meals, helping him wash himself etc. and during the nights she slept on a single deck chair.

Doctors and Patients Become Book Friends

You said when he first went to hospital; her husband was like a deflated rubber ball. However, within 10 days of treatment, he has become even more positive than he used to be. What happened during this time?

At first, as much as he was concerned, he would check his symptoms on his cell phone, which gave him different kinds of scary descriptions and made him even more worried. The leading doctor Qian Haoran then reminded him about the many suspect things online and asked him to stop. Qian told Guo to come to him if he had any questions. Later, they added each other as friends on Wechat.

At that time, You bought her husband some books, Keigo Higashino's The Miracle of the Grocery andInto The White Night. However, Doctor Li Xinlong stopped him when he had finished just a couple of lines. Li said the content of these two books was pretty gloomy and inappropriate for him. A few days later, Li, actually also a big fan of Keigo Higashino, brought him Shinzanmono, another work of Keigo Higashino from his home.

Guo's attending doctor, Qian had to go to the countryside for work at times. Whenever he came back, he would come to check on Guo at the earliest opportunity. "I would have felt sorry if I hadn't got better sooner," said Guo.

"Nurses are even more laborious than doctors. They check in on patients once an hour and whenever I got up at night, I saw them busy working," said You. "I used to think teachers had the most hardworking job until I saw them."

Doctors and nurses commented that the pictures were "not only beautiful but also authentic". "Without meticulous observation and a sincere heart, the figures couldn't be alive," said a doctor. "They're one of the best gifts we've ever received."
