More than 31 percent of Chinese tourists bring packaged instant noodles with them when they travel abroad, and not just to save money, according to a report.

The report by Alibaba's travel business alitrip.com and asset management website wacai.com showed 58.24 of overseas Chinese tourists prefer to eat instant noodles at their destinations.

It found Chinese travellers spent an average five days abroad. Of the those carrying the popular fast food from China, 50.36 percent said they usually brought three to five packages, implying more than half can't spend a day without the popular snack.

The main reasons for packing the convenience food include unfamiliar food at their destinations, and to save both time and money while traveling, according to the report.

It says to those who dislike western-style food, instant noodles appeal to them with "familiar taste." 

Preference for instant noodles differed between age groups: 66.14 percent among those born in the 1970s, 53.82 percent for post 1980s and 50.96 percent for post 1990s.

Young lovers showed the lowest interest in instant noodles on overseas trips, but 60.51 percent of those married and travelling with children relied on the fast food.

Among high income earners, that is those earning more than 20,000 yuan ($3,000) each month, instant noodles were still a favorite among 43 percent of tourists, which was not significantly different from those earning less than 5,000 yuan per month.
