In what surely approaches a record-setting accomplishment, almost 70 percent of students in the AP class of Ningbo Foreign Language School in east China's Zhejiang Province were admitted this year to top 50-ranked universities in the United States. In addition, the scholarships that these 53 students earned amounted to over 10 million yuan (U.S.$ 1.5 million).
The AP program at Ningbo Foreign Language School has only been running for four years, but many excellent, high-achieving students have already graduated from its ranks.
This year, of the many graduates admitted to top schools around the world, almost every student received at least four to five offers. One student actually got admitted to 10 schools, one of which offered an $88,000-dollar scholarship for all four years.
Admission to some of the schools is very competitive. For example, the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management (EAHM) only recruits 10 students from the Chinese mainland every year; in 2016, five of the 10 students were from Ningbo Foreign Language School, and two even got partial scholarships.
AP is short for Advanced Placement, which is a program in the United States and Canada created by the College Board that offers college-level curricula and examinations to high school students.
