Fan Ding, a frontier soldier assigned to security tasks during the Spring Festival travel rush, recently got a 30-minute platform reunion with his wife Lei Yun, a conductor also devoted to the peak period.

Too anxious to change out of his uniform, Fan rushed 30 miles to Guangzhou East Railway Station where his wife's train would stay for 30 minutes, on the afternoon of February 3.

When the train finally stopped and the door opened, Fan saw his partner and burst into tears.

"For the past six years, we have reunited about once every six months. The rest of the time, we reach each other through phone calls and WeChat (an online messaging app). But we never regret it. Mutual understanding and support have made us what we are today," Fan said.

The couple registered for marriage on January 1 earlier this year after having a long distance relationship and living a separate life for some time. However, the rush period before Spring Festival forced them to return to their posts immediately without enjoying even one day of wedding leave.

When most Chinese would return to their homes and reunite with family members during the most important festival of the year, the newly-wed couple have to be separated. Even the 30-minute reunion was a surprise for them. After that, they have to resume their tasks, just as they have been doing beforehand.
