Wei Chang, a 21-year-old from southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, has been working as anintern at the UN headquarters in New York, after standing out from competitors from around the world to win the position earlier this June.

In the Communications Technology Department, the young woman analyzes data and the progress of UN missions, in addition to helping with recruitment affairs.

"To work in the UN has been a dream since I was 9," she revealed.

After watching a TV series about a group of roaming street children who made their living throughacrobatic performances, the girl felt so fortunate in her own happy life and she has since been inspired to aid people in need.

After receiving education at a foreign language school in her hometown, she moved forward with her world-focused ambition and studied as an exchange student in the United States, where she later entered Boston University and received a diploma a year in advance.

Over the past five years abroad, Wei visited 36 countries on five continents. She once volunteered to teach in Haiti, learned about Bavarian culture in Germany and enriched herself by taking internships at famous institutions such as British financial service provider Caxton FX and the U.S. state broadcaster Voice of America.

Despite her rich life experiences at a young age, the woman never forgot about her childhood dream. She paid close attention to the recruitment information of the UN.

After submitting her resume 58 times a year and joining three rounds of interviews, she was eventually given the opportunity to work for the intergovernmental organization, among a group of fellow interns with master or even PhD degrees.

Shortly after joining the UN, the undergraduate demonstrated her remarkable abilities by serving at the 2016 UN Global Compact Leaders Summit from June 22-23.

She had brief conversations with quite a few people of accomplishments, among whom Adena Friedman, the CEO of Nasdaq, impressed her the most.

"She told me that she was an unremarkable intern at Nasdaq 23 years ago. But she has now become the first female president of the company. She has given me the motivation to strive for my goals," she said.

After her internship at the UN comes to end this December, Wei plans to further her education and major in international relations. She has applied to prestigious universities including Harvard, Yale and Stanford.
