An 84-year-old caring woman from Hangzhou, the capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, has made more than 700 bed sheets by hand and free of charge to convey her love to others over the past few years.
According to Lu Shufen, she initially made sheets especially for newborns, centenarians, retired veterans and those who have made dedications to the city. Due to Lu's exquisite works being widely praised, many people from other parts of the country began paying her a visit, hoping that Lu could make a special one for them.
Speaking of the whole production process, the elderly woman said that she usually spends at least three days completing one sheet. Lu stated that one sheet requires up to a total of 100 square meters of cloth and she uses scissors to cut each part down to five centimeters. Finally, she sews them together, Lu added.
The reason for making sheets in this unusual way had the meaningful implication of good luck to someone who owned it, the charitable woman revealed.
In the last six years, the elderly granny said that she has spent tens of thousands of yuan on buying cloth. As Lu has suffered from some health issues, she asked her younger sister to help her take these cloths home after purchase every time.
Despite her advanced age, she always had a smile on her face and looked younger than her other peers. She said, "I just want to do something positive to promote positive energy and care for more people in society."
With the G20 summit meeting being held in Hangzhou this year, Lu came up with an idea to make 50 sheets for guests who would participate in the summit and other volunteers.
In order to finish producing these sheets as soon as possible, Lu started work on her project in early January. Lu revealed that all works have been well prepared by the end of June. She hoped to show her concern to more people in every corner of the world through her handmade products.
