A caring nurse from the city of Foshan in south China's Guangdong Province has recently attracted the attention of netizens nationwide after a video of her saving the life of a 48-year-old man who was left in a coma on the road was posted online by a passerby.
Liu Maoying, 37, who works at a local community health station in the city, was walking along the street to her workplace when she heard a loud bang around 7 a.m. on August 31.
Liu rushed to the site of the noise to check what had happened.
After discovering a man lying in the road, she immediately dialed for an ambulance and began first aid.
"By the time I got there the man's face had turned pale and his breathing had become shallow, so I began CPR at once," Liu told the reporter.
Learning the man had regained his breathing, the woman left quietly when the ambulance arrived, without leaving her name or contact information.
However, her charitable behavior was recorded by a passerby through a video and has since gone viral, but she had no idea until the president of the health station called up her.
Praised by the public, Liu said, "I did not think a lot at that time, and my first reaction was to save the person. Everyone would do what I did when encountering such an accident. It really isn't a big deal," Liu stated.
"When I reached my home, I found I had grazed my knee when administering CPR," the woman revealed. "But these small things are nothing compared to saving the life of a person."
Being a nurse herself, Liu knew more than anyone else at the scene that rescuing a patient was a race against time. "I couldn't wait. First aid should be carried out within four minutes after people stop breathing as it's the golden time to rescue their life," Liu added.
After learning about Liu's story in the video, Zhang Qiuqiao, one of her colleagues, praised Liu and said that she had always been a good Samaritan.
On September 2, Liu paid a visit to the 48-year-old man called Fu Wenman, who she helped last month, while presenting him with around 2,000 yuan (U.S. 300) which was awarded to her by the local government. "I am a rural person. I know it is difficult to make money as a migrant worker. What makes me happy is that the elder brother's health condition has recovered in a short space of time," Liu maintained.
Wang Guizhen, the man's wife, extended her sincere thanks to Liu stating, "It is really wonderful that such a good person has offered a helping hand to my husband. Or I cannot imagine the result..."
