A cartoon showing six things a Chinese mom says to her daughter to persuade her to get married has recently become a hit on social media, sparking discussion about singles and the pressures they face from their parents.

The drawing was originally created by Miss Xu, a 27-year-old teacher from Wenzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province.

Since starting employment seven years ago, Xu has yet to find her "Mr. Right." She cites the lack of contact she makes with people outside of work, and the small number of male acquaintances she has, as reasons for her single status.

However, her mother has no interest in hearing excuses, only when and how soon she will get married. The anxious mom tried hard to get her daughter to take action, from patient persuasion and comparisons to even "threatening" her.

The illustrations spell out Xu's mother's diverse lines of reasoning.

"Emotional Persuasion: See, nobody comes to care for you when you are sick. Go and find one. Mama is old. I do so much want you to have a child," reads one section.

"Ruthless Comparison: I gave birth to you at 26. You are reaching 30 and don't have even a boyfriend. Look around you, young women [of your age] all have toddlers. They're all smarter than you!"

"Rational Analysis: See? Single men with some merits never worry about finding a good wife, let alone the outstanding ones; all are taken away very quickly. You go on like this, and you end up getting nothing."

"Scientific Citation: You know what, kid? The scientists say that women give birth to the best child before 25. You must hurry up!"

"Provoking Skepticism: What's the matter with you? Not a single man fancies you? You have not even a little bit charm? I got married even though I was so ugly!"

"Furious Threatening: Marry by the end of the year or I'll kick you out! You're useless! Useless ..."

To avoid the ceaseless disturbances, Xu went to travel abroad during the Spring Festival, along with her elder cousin aged 30, and a female colleague.

The three women have been suffering the same pressure, crying out for more understanding. In fact, Xu has been looking for the right boyfriend, just not as quickly as her mother expects.

"There is no certain age when one is supposed to marry. Only love will make someone get married," she said.
